We have set up a beta test program with ootiboo schools to help test and feedback on our resources and workshops before they are delivered, and for Little Experts: Why Money Matters we had Bishop Gilpin Church of England Primary School in Wimbledon as our first beta school! The Year 3 classes kindly helped [Goose](https://play.ootiboo.com/about-us/our-team/angus-cameron) and [Chris](https://play.ootiboo.com/about-us/our-team/chris-green) perfect the project. They learnt lots in the morning workshop, and made changes for afternoon session to fine-tune and lock-down the presentation.

St Peter's Church of England Primary School 

St Peters

Our first official Why Money Matters workshop was at St Peter's Church of England Primary School in Folkestone. Students from years 3-6 explored various aspects of money, including spend vs save and need vs want. Each student had the chance to choose a job, earn a wage, receive ootibloons (our made-up currency), and spend their earnings in our market. The market activity was lively with students taking turns to be stallholders and customers. 

We are very pleased to have a member of the Farshore team assisting with each workshop - the St Peter's workshop was lucky enough to have Sarah Bates, Publishing Strategy Director (pictured), on hand to help out!

Sellindge Primary School

ooitboo spent the day at Sellindge Primary School delivering the workshop to two classes. Led by [Chris](https://play.ootiboo.com/about-us/our-team/chris-green) from ootiboo and Tiffany from Farshore, the children had a great fun learning all about the history of money and thinking about want versus need and saving versus spending. Each workshop culminated in Meaden's Marketplace, where the children spent their hard-earned ootibloons at a variety of stalls. Thank you to both Badger and Otter classes for being amazing!

One ootibloon is better than none...

Our first Little Experts project is based on the book [_Why Money Matters_](https://harpercollins.co.uk/products/why-money-matters-little-experts-book-1-deborah-meaden?variant=40255356731470), a guide to managing money by the fabulous Deborah Meaden. 

We have created our very own ootiboo currency – ootibloons – and have designed a fun activity for children to learn about the value of money, need vs want and spend vs save. 

It's a great way to bring together STEM and creativity as STEAM.

The workshop we held at St Peter's Church of England Primary School was lucky enough to have Sarah Bates, Publishing Strategy Director (pictured), on hand to help out!

With their support we were able to reach 15 schools in November 2023 and we will be able to deliver workshops to 24 more schools in 2024.  They really understand the value of educating kids from a young age on the importance of financial wisdom and savvy spending decisions. And we are extremely excited to have a real bank logo appearing on our ootibloons!

This project supports the National Curriculum in Maths, English, Citizenship and History. 

To help teachers link the project to National Curriculum requirements we have created a detailed PDF. Select the Download NC links button to read the document.

Children's book publisher Farshore is our co-creator and funder on the project exploring some of the themes of the Little Experts: Why Money Matters book by Deborah Meaden. Farshore also funded the development of the project.

Independent bank OakNorth funded the delivery of workshops to 12 schools 2023 and is funding workshops to 24 more schools in 2024.

New workshops available

Why Money Matters is the first of our Little Experts projects based of non-fiction books for 6 to 9-year-olds published by Farshore. The project was launched in November 2023 with 15 schools taking part in workshops run by the ootiboo team. We have secured funding for 24 more schools to take part in workshops in 2024 and you can now book your free workshop by selecting the Register for a workshop button.
