Little Experts in schools

In November 2023 we delivered 15 workshop days (a total of 30 workshops) to schools across Kent and London. Following the success of this pilot we are running a further 24 workshop days in 2024 to schools in Essex, London, West Midlands, Devon and Kent.

Beta test

We have set up a beta test program with ootiboo schools to help test and gather feedback on our resources and workshops before they are delivered.

For Little Experts: Why Money Matters workshop, Bishop Gilpin Church of England Primary School in Wimbledon was our beta school. The Year 3 classes kindly helped [Goose](https://play.ootiboo.com/about-us/our-team/angus-cameron) and [Chris](https://play.ootiboo.com/about-us/our-team/chris-green) perfect the project. 

The ootiboo team learnt lots in the morning workshop, and with those learnings we made changes for afternoon session to fine-tune the workshop delivery.

Workshops in schools

Our Why Money Matters workshops have been delivered in several primary schools so far. Students from years 3-6 explore various aspects of money, including spend vs save and need vs want. Each student chooses a job, earns a wage, receives ootibloons (our made-up currency), and spends their earnings in our market. The market activity is always lively with students taking turns to be stallholders and customers. 

Member of the Farshore team have assisted some of our workshops, providing a chance to observe how students interact with the content.

Our first Little Experts project is based on the book [_Why Money Matters_](https://harpercollins.co.uk/products/why-money-matters-little-experts-deborah-meaden), a guide to managing money by the fabulous Deborah Meaden. 

We have created our very own ootiboo currency – ootibloons – and have designed a fun activity for children to learn about the value of money, need vs want and spend vs save. 

It's a great way to bring together STEM and creativity as STEAM.

Little Experts: Why Money Matters was created in collaboration with children's publishers [Farshore](https://play.ootiboo.com/about-us/partnerships/farshore) - and even better, last November some of the Farshore team assisted with the workshops! The workshop we held at St Peter's Church of England Primary School was lucky enough to have Sarah Bates, Publishing Strategy Director (pictured), on hand to help out!

We are incredibly appreciative of OakNorth's involvement on the project. They really understand the value of educating kids from a young age on the importance of financial wisdom and savvy spending decisions. Children's book publisher Farshore is our co-creator and funder on the project exploring some of the themes of the Little Experts: Why Money Matters book by Deborah Meaden. Farshore also funded the development of the project.

Independent bank OakNorth funded the delivery of workshops to 12 schools 2023 and is funding workshops to 24 more schools in 2024.

Why Money Matters is the first of our Little Experts projects based of non-fiction books for 6 to 9-year-olds published by Farshore.

The project was launched in November 2023 with 15 schools taking part in workshops run by the ootiboo team. We secured funding for 24 more workshop days in 2024 with all available spaces now booked.
