The Blue Marble
The Blue Marble
The deadline for entries is February 7!
Cinematographer and host of eCo: Svalbard project Jannicke Mikkelsen from Norway is embarking on her next big adventure as an astronaut on the Fram2 space mission, the first human spaceflight to fly over both polar regions.
We are very excited to have the unique opportunity to send twelve video questions from primary and secondary schools to Jannicke and the crew of the Fram2 space mission, who will answer them while in space! The crew will be filmed next to a digital tablet which will play the pre-recorded questions, so the children will see themselves floating in Space!
The project is open to all school children, anywhere in the world and the deadline for entries is February 7, 2025.
Here are some examples of the fantastic questions we have received so far! Visit the Jump In section for all the information needed to submit your own question.

Schools around the globe can submit video questions from students. Twelve will be chosen by Jannicke and the crew, saved onto a tablet and loaded onto the Dragon spacecraft. Jannicke and the crew will be filmed answering the questions along with the students on the tablet screen, floating in space!
How to take part
Students can ask the crew a question about anything to do with space or the mission. Please keep each individual question to a maximum length of 30 seconds. Ideally, questions are recorded in English but we will accept questions in other languages, providing the teacher submits an accurate English transcript of the question.
The deadline for videos is February 7, 2025. We will announce the successful participants on February 21, 2025.
All children visible on video must have clearance from the school for potential use on the ootiboo digital platform and social media and wider international media outlet coverage
Follow the guide below to get the best video of your questions and have a higher chance of being chosen.
Filming guidelines
Camera setup
Video your questions in landscape. Portrait videos will NOT be accepted.
Hold the recording device steady, ideally use a tripod or prop it against something so there is no wobble.
Choose a neutral background, with as few distractions as possible and frame the student so we see just their head and shoulders.
Lighting
Make sure you video the students in a well lit environment. Natural light is best, but if not feasible the most important thing to avoid is any shadows across faces.
Audio
Make sure all voices can be clearly heard on your recordings, with as little background noise as possible. If you are recording outside, try and avoid the wind as it can muffle the words of the student.
Identification
When the student entry is recorded, have them say their first name, school and country for identification. There should be a brief pause and then the student asks their question.
Use the Share tab to upload and share your video question.
The twelve chosen videos will be shared publicly, so any pupils featured in the videos you send must have the appropriate level of clearance.
